Daylight Precedences + Massing Study

This is the first of several design exercises to develop a (day)lighting concept for your project. Following this precedence study, you will in turn explore daylight availability, visual comfort and electric lighting using digital analysis techniques.

Task A: Precedence Study

Start searching for examples of successfully daylit buildings and massing concepts. An excellent source for daylit floor plans is the Daylight Pattern Guide but feel free to also consult the AIA Green Cote projects and any other resource that comes to mind. Please share one or two images that speak to the lighting quality that you are aiming for. If there are any specific daylighting technologies or effects that you are interested in analyzing, please share those as well.

Task B Develop Three Daylight Massing Models

Using the rules of thumb from the Daylighting Design Principles lecture, develop at least three massing ideas for your building and provide some hand or digital sketches (see Figure 1).
